Melvin Yong on Land Transport and Related Matters (No. 2) Bill
The different parts of the Land Transport and Related Matters (No. 2) Bill deal with very different technologies and transport activities but there are three guiding principles, said MP Melvin Yong. Speaking in parliament on Wednesday (Oct 7), he said firstly, it makes safe and legal choice easy for consumers, whether in buying a replacement battery online or booking a transport service. Secondly, it deals with the risks upstream and where possible, acts promptly and firmly against unsafe sellers and listings, as well as illegal transport networks and deregistered vehicles. The third guiding principle revolves around working with unions to bring workers along as the transport system changes - through clear transition plans, timely reskilling support and viable employment pathways.
