Charlene Chen on Land Transport and Related Matters (No. 2) Bill
In parliament on Wednesday (Oct 7), MP Charlene Chen spoke on the proposed extension of safety rules to online sales of active mobility devices and their batteries. She raised three questions. How will compatibility claims be substantiated? What responsibility will online marketplaces bear? How will the requirements be enforced at scale? Among Dr Chen’s suggestions were that certain warning signs should trigger a duty for online marketplaces to investigate sellers and listings, and that when the Land Transport Authority directs a seller to remove a listing, the platform should also be notified.
