Valerie Lee on Land Transport and Related Matters (No. 2) Bill
Legislation is only the beginning; the real test is what happens after the rule is made, said MP Valerie Lee. Speaking in parliament on Wednesday (Oct 7), she highlighted three areas facing a common challenge - the last mile of implementation - in unwanted bicycles, electric vehicle (EV) charging and deregistered vehicles. For bicycles, it means clearing the common spaces while giving owners a fair opportunity to recover their property and finding ways to reuse them. For EV charging, it means a more risk-based inspection regime that is clear to users and effective in keeping chargers safe. For deregistered vehicles, it means closing the chain between deregistration and verified export or disposal.
