National Day Rally 2026: S'pore must keep Asian identity to avoid monolingual society, says PM Wong

Prime Minister Lawrence Wong says that Singapore must not become a monolingual society. In his Mandarin speech at the National Day Rally, he noted that more Chinese households are speaking English. Only about a third use Mandarin at home. To ensure youths remain bilingual, PM Wong says a combined effort is needed in schools and families, along with greater societal support.
