Around 1,300 flights to and from UK airports were disrupted or cancelled on Tuesday (Sep 8 ) after a technical glitch affected the National Air Traffic Services (NATS) air traffic control systems. Travellers were left to find alternative arrangements as British air traffic control scrambled to recover from the disruptions. Flights continued to be disrupted into Wednesday, with at least 177 flights axed. NATS said it was still working to resolve disruption following a "system issue".
NATS boss Martin Rolfe said he accepted "full responsibility" but declined to say if he was considering quitting his job. But Ryanair COO Neal McMahon repeated his calls for Rolfe to be fired, accusing him of having again "failed UK travellers".
