Antonio Guterres calls for global unity, cooperation before last UNGA as Secretary-General
The upcoming UN General Assembly will be Antonio Guterres' last as Secretary General. The 77-year-old has called on world leaders to come together for peace, dignity, justice and humanity as they prepare to gather in New York. Mr Guterres is the first former head of government to become the world's top diplomat. In nearly a decade as UN chief, he has taken his brand of diplomacy around the globe – including to Singapore and other ASEAN member state, tackling issues from regional security to climate change.
