Bangkok floods force thousands into shelters
Deep floodwaters in Bangkok drove thousands of residents into shelters on Sunday (Sep 27), after days of heavy rain inundated markets, roads and homes.
Residents stock up on essentials as flooding disrupts neighbourhood shops. Some stores ran low on supplies, prompting authorities to urge the public not to panic-buy.
Nearly 4,900 people have been evacuated to shelters, with around 52,000 households affected by the floods. Hundreds of schools will be closed on Monday.
Several Bangkok residents said this year's flooding was worse than in previous rainy seasons, with warnings arriving too late for them to prepare.
More than 330mm of rain fell in parts of Bangkok between Thursday and Sunday. Authorities are working to speed up drainage as roads remain flooded and canal levels remain high.
